Week 17 - 1/3 of the year gone?!!!
Alright – I’m putting this here for posterity – this list is
exhausting. I should not do this again
in a decade (at least not without making nearly all the goals easy like eating
50 pieces of chocolate….). I’m tired and
wearing out.
That said, the goals do continue to push me into places I
wouldn’t get on my own which is a very good thing. There are certainly plenty of times that I
need this.
I missed an update again last week. As it turned out, I was recovering from strep
throat which explains why a bicycle ride I did in the hills/mountains of
Virginia on a hot day was truly excruciating.
I’m looking forward to going back when a) I’m feeling better and b) it
isn’t 95 on the heat index to see where I’m at.
There are some good hills there that will help prepare me for France if
I go.
Other than that, the goals move forward slowly. I’ve realized that in truth they are
suffering and so have installed an app on my phone to prevent me from opening
some of the apps I’m addicted to (Candy Crush, I’m looking at you) except very
late in the evening. There’s an irony in
using an app for this, but it’s working so I’m not going to knock it.
In weather news, it’s rained the last 10 days straight after
no rain for almost 2 weeks so apparently it’s either feast or famine. Hopefully this will level out and we’ll get
into some more regular biking/park visiting/etc.
One exciting note – the garden is beginning to produce! Oddly, banana peppers were the first to be
harvested, but it’s underway!
With that, back to the goals.
Physical
#5
–1,348 miles – With this being almost exactly 1/3 of the way through the
year, this is right on pace. I’d like to
get it a little ahead, but at least it’s on pace.
#6 – 4,630. This is a bit off the pace, but I know that I can get to 80
or 100 push up days to catch up.
Mental
#14 – To
Kill a Mockingbird – A true classic and one that I haven’t read in years. Long enough that the characters I pay
attention to are different. If only I
could be as strong a father to my boys as Atticus was to his.
Wild – With one of my loose goals being to get into hiking
enough to hike the Appalachian Trail, this was an interesting read. A very sad story about how she found herself
hiking, but amazing what she found out there.
Relationship
#21 With spring here, we've been getting out a bit more frequently. We're
now up to 9.
#22 – Still at 12 –
though this week it was Robinson who wanted to play Stratego. He lost and still wants to play!
#26 – Not many books read this week – need to get back to being home at night.
Environmental
#27 – Currently at 11.5 lbs for the year. Off pace here, but this too could make
a huge jump if need be.
#30 - 6.5 lbs of meat on
the year. Had lots of leftover chicken in the house and didn’t want to
waste it.
#31 – No shopping this week so no bags
#32 – 4 ounces of
vegetables as the banana peppers have begun to produce!
Miscellaneous
#35 - This is the 13th post
#36 - I've only cleaned
the bathrooms 10 times. Really need to get this moving
#38 – Up to 12 here with the addition of Apple Market in Lynchburg – I need to
do more of this. Twist my arm please….
#42 – This might end up
being the best goal of the list as it is helping me think about the longer term
life goals. Should be interesting to see
what this looks like in the end.
